Welding Practice Part 2
Practice makes perfect. Practice practice practice. I feel like I am getting the hang of things now, but I am still not consistant. Which is fine for scrap metal, but when I am welding the cage I cant really try again. Welds are pretty permanent ya know?
Here are a few more welds from my practice session. On these first three I was experimenting with different wire feed speeds. I received some kind professional advice that slowing down the wire feed would give the metal more chance to heat up and yeild better penetration. So here are pictures with the feed and 40, 50 and 60 ipm. You can see a pretty big difference!
With that new knowledge I tried a few more welds which I would break after the piece cooled so I could see where the failure is. I still feel like I am not getting these to penetrate as well as I would like, but they ARE better.
And here is a butt weld. My previous attempts at this were terrible. The one below however, was a big improvement. You can see the failure point is not the weld, but the metal itself.
And here are some other welds I did as practice. A few look pretty dang good!
Thats all for now. I will keep on practicing!
