The Beginning
Credit for discovering the ChumpCar racing series goes to fellow teammate, coworker, friend, and car enthusiast, Brian Myers. During a business trip in Minneaplis, Brian bumped into one of the PR guys from ChumpCar. After learning about the ChumpCar series, Brian came to me (Andy) about the idea, and I was immediately interested. Since I was very young and got my first R/C car, I wanted to race. Growing up, I have always sought competitive events that favor speed and adreneline. ChumpCar sounded perfect because of the $500 car rule. And this is the main rule for ChumpCar; The street value of your car cannot be greater than $500. Perfect! I went home with this idea and talked with my awesome wife, Lauren, who must have seen the excitement in my eyes. She ok’d the idea, and the rest is history.
I immediately put my 2004 Subaru STi up for sale. If I was going to do this race, I needed to adjust my priorities, so the STi had to go. Once it sold, I bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, which will become the tow vehicle. I then sold an extra set of rally wheels to SUBA Performance, and used the cash to buy my ChumpCar, a 1995 Subaru Impreza, for $435. Selling the wheels to SUBA Performance turned out to be one of the best things I could have done, but you can read more about that on the sponsor page.
So now Ive got my crap-can $500 car. But that is just the beginning.
